The above picture is one of the most famous picture in the world. If you are the requester band Rage Against The Machine, the picture above is used for the front page of their first album. I first saw this image on an RATM album and always wondered what the hell was the picture about. I totally forgot about it until The Wife asked me "Why is this man to burn yourself on the road?" while on our wy to Lagkawi. What a good question by Miss Mean. So let us examine the story behind this picture.Picture below is a picture of the Sami thích Quang Duc burned himself to protest against the government of South Vietnam President Ngo Dinh Diem. Ngo Dinh Diem prosekusi a practicing Catholic Christians against the Buddhists of Vietnam. Buddhists are treated as second class citizens even though they comprise 80% of the population of South Vietnam. Oppress the majority and minority religious rights are to be restricted. For example, the flag may be flown on the Buddha did not Wesak Day but the Vatican flag may be flown during the day Catholic celebration. Many South Vietnamese government officials professing the Catholic religion just to make sure they are not removed.Monk Quang Duc burned himself thích him for the attention of the world turn a blind eye to injustice President Ngo Dinh Diem who was supported by the United States in the Vietnam war at that time.Monk Quang Duc burned thích himself on the street in the city of Saigon on 11 Jun1963. On that day he and another 350 Buddhist monks marched en masse. Upon arrival at the crossroads near the Presidential Palace, Sami thích Quang Duc who boarded out of the car. One other monks put a pillow on the road and Sami thích Quang Duc sitting on it. Then another monk poured 5 gallons of oil over the body thích Quang Duc. He praised the Buddhist mantra read before lighting a match and burned himself.
